India, Aug. 30 -- The Tamil Nadu Police have downgraded the security cover of former Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin from Z+ to Z category following a periodic review of the threats faced by protected political leaders, media reports said.

The decision was taken after an assessment by the Core Cell Security Wing at the State Secretariat.

Chief Secretary Sai Kumar, Home Secretary K. Manivasan, Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal and other senior officials took part in the review, which examined intelligence inputs and Stalin's protection requirements.

Despite the downgrade, Stalin will continue to receive substantial police protection.
