India, July 20 -- A US service member was killed in northern Iraq during an operation involving unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian drone, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday.

Sharing details of the incident on X, CENTCOM said: "Separately, a U.S. service member in northern Iraq was killed in action July 18 during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone."

CENTCOM said another US service member sustained a minor injury in the incident and is currently undergoing medical treatment.

In a separate statement, CENTCOM said US forces carried out a ninth consecutive night of strikes against Iran.
