India, June 28 -- Lionel Messi continued his brilliant form as Argentina defeated Jordan 3-1 to seal their place in the Round of 32 in the FIFA World Cup on Saturday.

The defending champions and tournament favourites completed their Group J campaign with a perfect record, winning all three matches.

Messi, who was rested for the early part of the match with Argentina already assured of qualification, was introduced in the second half and once again made an impact.

The goal marked Messi's sixth of the tournament, taking his overall World Cup tally to 19. He also became the first player to score in seven consecutive World Cup matches.
