India, July 6 -- At least eight people, including four children, were injured in a shooting during a Fourth of July family barbecue in the Coney Island neighbourhood of Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday night, according to media reports.

The incident occurred as family members were celebrating in the courtyard of a high-rise apartment building near Surf Avenue.

Officers responding to an emergency call at around 10:35 p.m. found eight victims suffering from gunshot wounds, the New York Police Department told CNN. The victims included four boys aged 6, 7, 12 and 14, two women aged 21 and 25, and two men aged 33 and 37.
