Kolkata/IBNS, Sept. 21 -- A committee appointed by the West Bengal government is considering proposals to rename several key Kolkata roads named after Communist icons, sparking a debate over the BJP-led administration's efforts to replace existing street names with those associated with Indian historical and national figures.

The development comes months after Kolkata's Suhrawardy Avenue was renamed Gopal Mukherjee Road amid controversy.
