Kolkata/IBNS, Oct. 18 -- Seven people, including members of the organising committee of the Chorbagan Sarbojanin Durga Puja, have been arrested following a stampede that killed 19 people and injured dozens at the North Kolkata pandal on Saturday evening, with investigators examining possible lapses in crowd management, access control and safety arrangements.

Police have registered a suo motu case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with the tragedy, which unfolded around 7.40 pm amid heavy rain and a large gathering of visitors on Saptami.
