Mumbai/IBNS, Dec. 12 -- The Indian stock market opened on a strong note on Friday, with the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty surging in the first hour of trade, media reports said.

In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap index gained 0.76 percent and the Nifty SmallCap climbed 0.74 percent.
