India, June 28 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday handed over a high-speed Fast Patrol Vessel to the Seychelles Coast Guard, marking another milestone in India's strategic partnership with the island nation and strengthening maritime security cooperation in the Indian Ocean.

The vessel, named PS Lespwar, was built by Goa Shipyard Limited and is capable of travelling at speeds exceeding 30 knots.

Designed to enhance maritime surveillance, it will support the Seychelles Coast Guard in monitoring the country's vast Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

In Creole, Lespwar translates to "hope".
