India, Sept. 17 -- Yemen's Houthis on Wednesday claimed they had shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet over Marib using a locally manufactured missile, as tensions between the two sides intensified following a Saudi interception of a drone near Mecca.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the fighter jet was brought down while carrying out what he described as "hostile operations" in support of Saudi military activity in Yemen's Marib province.

"The Yemeni Armed Forces, with Allah's aid and grace, succeeded in shooting down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet," Saree said in a statement shared on social media.

The Houthis also released video footage that they said showed the aircraft being targeted and subsequently destroyed.
