India, June 3 -- Germany has announced that Indian nationals will no longer require a Schengen Airport Transit Visa (Type A) when transiting through German international airports, effective June 3, 2026.

The decision, first announced in January during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's official visit to India on January 12-13, has now been formally published in the Federal Law Gazette (Bundesgesetzblatt), confirming its implementation from Tuesday.

It further stated that the move reflects outcomes of discussions during the German Chancellor's visit earlier this year and underscores efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.
