India, Aug. 24 -- Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who led the national side to the World Cup final in 2003, has been appointed as the head coach of the Pretoria Capitals ahead of the upcoming SA20 League.

The franchise announced the development on Instagram.

Ganguly, who had previously served as the BCCI President, will succeed former England coach Jonathan Trott in the head coach role.

Thanking Trott for the contribution, the franchise said: "Jonathan Trott, forever grateful for your leadership and unwavering dedication to the team."

This is the first time Ganguly will be serving as the head coach of a team.

In the 2019 season fo the Indian Premier League, Ganguly had served as the mentor of Delhi Capitals.
