India, June 18 -- US President Donald Trump has signed an agreement with Iran aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East, marking a major diplomatic breakthrough after more than three months of fighting.

The signing took place during a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles following the G7 summit.

"President Trump signed tonight at Versailles the agreement between Iran and the United States. This agreement paves the way for lasting peace and allows the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz," Macron wrote.

He added that the deal could also help bring down energy prices in the coming months.
