India, Sept. 9 -- The Eiffel Tower reopened on Tuesday after a one-day closure triggered by a staff strike over what a union official described as "unacceptable" management instructions concerning a visit by a Hindu delegation.

The strike followed a dispute over instructions allegedly issued to employees ahead of a Saturday visit by around 100 members of the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha, commonly known as BAPS.

Union objects to instructions for female staff

Diane Davoine of the CGT union told The Associated Press that tensions among Eiffel Tower employees escalated after management allegedly instructed female workers to "not be in contact" with members of the visiting delegation.
