New Delhi/IBNS, Dec. 18 -- Stricter guidelines to curb air pollution in Delhi were enforced on Thursday as the national capital grappled with a "severe" Air Quality Index (AQI), media reports said.

The new measures, including mandatory work-from-home and a ban on entry for certain vehicles, were implemented a day after the Supreme Court criticised the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

Only emergency workers and daily wage labourers are exempted from the work from home mode.

A top court bench, comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, said only sustained long-term action can reduce pollution levels that are affecting residents' health.
