India, March 5 -- C. V. Ananda Bose, the Governor of West Bengal who had frequently made headlines over his differences with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has resigned from his post, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced.

Bose is currently in New Delhi. The reason for his resignation, which comes months ahead of the Assembly elections in the state, is not yet known.

In her first reaction, the Chief Minister said she was "shocked and deeply concerned" by the development.
