India, April 17 -- Canada Post has announced that about 136,000 addresses across 13 communities will lose door-to-door mail delivery as part of the first phase of a nationwide transition to community mailboxes.

Communities affected in the first phase include parts of Ottawa, Winnipeg, Etobicoke, and regions in Quebec and British Columbia.

Canada Post said the transition is necessary to adapt to changing delivery patterns and ensure long-term financial sustainability, as traditional mail volumes decline and operational costs rise.

Community mailboxes provide secure compartments for letters and most parcels, with larger or signature-required deliveries redirected to nearby post offices or delivered separately.
