Big win for Vijay government! Supreme Court stays Madras HC's cow slaughter ban in Tamil Nadu
New Delhi/IBNS, July 13 -- In a significant relief for the Tamil Nadu government, the Supreme Court on Monday stayed the Madras High Court's order imposing a statewide ban on the slaughter of cows and calves, including on Bakrid and other occasions, media reports said.
Supreme Court Stays High Court Order
A Bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta stayed the High Court's direction while issuing notice on a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister Thalapathy Vijay.
The apex court observed that the High Court's order prima facie required "correction" and agreed to examine the state's challenge.
