Kolkata/IBNS, May 21 -- The Calcutta High Court on Thursday ordered a fresh probe into allegations of destruction of evidence in the 2024 R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case, media reports said.

A bench of Justices Shampa Sarkar and Tirthankar Ghosh directed a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by the Joint Director (Eastern Zone) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to examine the allegations.

The bench also empowered the CBI to interrogate any person deemed necessary for the investigation.

The CBI has been ordered to re-investigate the sequence of events in the duration between the dinner time on the night of the crime and the cremation on the following day.
