India, Nov. 10 -- At least five people were killed and several others injured after a powerful explosion ripped through a parked car near Gate No. 1 of Delhi's Red Fort (Lal Qila) Metro Station on Monday evening, sending shockwaves through the high-security area.

Officials confirmed that a car caught fire following the blast, which also caused three nearby vehicles to ignite.

Sources in Delhi Police told IBNS that death toll could rise.

According to the Delhi Fire Department, a distress call was received at around 6:55 pm, after which seven fire tenders and 15 CAT ambulances were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Firefighters swiftly contained the flames after a short but intense firefighting operation.
