Malda/IBNS, July 7 -- Amid mounting public outrage over the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Baruipur, another shocking case of sexual assault on a child has come to light in West Bengal.

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in the English Bazar area of Malda district.

The Class VI student is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at Malda Medical College and Hospital.

After the victim fell ill, her family rushed her to the hospital and later lodged a police complaint.

The accused allegedly fled to Purnia in Bihar to evade arrest but was traced using technical surveillance and arrested by the police.
