India, Sept. 11 -- Algeria has severed diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and banned Emirati civilian and military aircraft from its airspace, citing "provocative and hostile acts", media reports said.

The airspace ban, announced by Algeria's Defence Ministry, came into effect on September 11. However, commercial flights to Algiers will remain exempt until the end of 2026, Euronews reported.

Algeria announced the decision to sever diplomatic relations with the UAE on September 10, following years of tensions between the two countries.

Algeria has also given the UAE ambassador 48 hours to leave the country, according to the report.
