Hyderabad/IBNS, June 9 -- Actor Nithya Menen has strongly defended the South Indian film industry amid the backlash over the alleged objectification of Janhvi Kapoor in Peddi.

In an interview with Variety, Menen condemned the objectification of women in cinema but rejected the notion that the issue is unique to South Indian films.

Menen attributed the issue to the increasing commercialisation of the film industry, where content perceived to attract audiences often takes precedence.
