India, July 19 -- A career counsellor has sparked a debate on social media after claiming that earning more than Rs 2 lakh a month often becomes a trap rather than a pathway to greater freedom in India.

Mohit Talreja, in a video shared on Instagram, argued that while a high salary provides financial comfort, chasing ever-higher pay can lead to an endless cycle of competition and burnout.

His remarks have since gone viral, prompting discussions on inflation, work-life balance and the meaning of financial freedom.

"High salary remains a trap in India," Talreja said in the video.

According to him, a person can enjoy a comfortable lifestyle in India once their monthly salary reaches around Rs 2 lakh.
