India, April 28 -- Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) is planning to invest Rs.1.6 Lakh Cr (about $17 Bn) to set up a 1.5 GW data centre cluster along with a captive solar battery storage system in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam. 

Citing sources, ET reported that the investment for the new data centre was approved by Andhra Pradesh's Investment Promotion Committee at a meeting on April 25 (Saturday). 

RIL has reportedly requested 935 acres for the data centre cluster, out of which 300 acres will be utilised in the first phase and remaining 635 acres in the second. The company will set up a 5000 MW data centre at Poliapalli village in the first phase, expected to commence operations by October 2028.
