SASARAM, Aug. 27 -- A 25-year-old youth allegedly shot and critically injured his girlfriend before killing himself inside a banquet hall at Laxmi Nagar locality under Sasaram Town police station limits on Monday evening, police said. The deceased, identified as Jacky Kumar (25) of Baulia More, and the girl, Kajal (21) of Dalelganj locality in Sasaram, had been in a relationship for five years and wished to marry. However, her family reportedly opposed the inter-caste marriage, police added. According to investigators, Jacky arrived at the banquet hall in the evening and Kajal joined him about an hour later. They discussed the cost of the engagement ceremony with the hall owner, after which Jacky went upstairs to inspect the venue. Kajal followed him, but moments later came running downstairs, bleeding and crying for help after being shot in the chest. She was rushed to Sadar Hospital and later referred to another medical centre in a critical condition. Meanwhile, Jacky locked himself inside a room, where he was later found dead on a bed with a gunshot wound to his head. Police recovered a country-made pistol along with live and empty cartridges from the spot. Kajal's mother, Gayatri Devi, claimed that Jacky's love was "one-sided." She said her daughter's engagement had been fixed six months ago and accused Jacky of pressuring her into marriage. However, Jacky's father, Parasnath, who runs a food stall, alleged foul play, claiming that his son was murdered by the girl's family in connivance with the banquet hall owner. He demanded a murder case be registered against them. Rohtas Superintendent of Police (SP) Raushan Kumar confirmed that an unnatural death case has been lodged and said police are probing the incident from all possible angles....
