Two-year-old girl critically injured in stray dog attack
SASARAM, June 27 -- A toddler sustained critical injuries after a stray dog attacked her late on Thursday during a wedding ceremony at Jharkhandi Temple complex in Dehri under Bihar's Rohtas district, police said on Friday.
Sonu Kumar, a resident of Dhundhua village in Aurangabad district, had arrived at Jharkhandi Temple with his wife and two-year-old daughter Shalini Kumari, to attend a wedding when the incident took place.
While Shalini's parents were away, a stray dog roaming inside the temple premises attacked the child, clamping its jaws on her and severely mauling parts of her body. Hearing her cries, visitors rushed to the scene.
After considerable effort, they rescued the girl and chased the dog away. She was taken to Dehri Sub-Divisional Hospital where doctors provided primary treatment and referred her to a higher institution. Hospital Manager Rana Rajesh Kumar said that such attacks on young children are extremely tragic and urged the local civic body officials to address the stray dog menace seriously and take corrective measures.
Residents expressed their displeasure with authorities, stating the problem of stray dog attacks has persisted in the area for a long time, but effective measures are not being taken to control it....
