Tribal groups announce 'Adivasiyat' campaign
RANCHI, June 30 -- Representatives from tribal and Jharkhandi organisations on Monday announced a state-wide initiative to protect their cultural and social identity, citing concerns over external ideological influences.
The declaration followed a dialogue 'Adivasiyat Sanrakshan Samvad' organised by Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha, Adivasi Adhikar Manch and Gaon Ganrajya Parishad, focused on preserving indigenous traditions and constitutional rights.
A primary theme of the dialogue was the importance of the term "Adivasi" (original inhabitants) as a marker of distinct historical and social status. Speakers expressed concern that alternative labels could dilute their unique heritage and lead to integration into different social hierarchies.
They opined the tribal community's identity was distinct. Merging this identity into other frameworks could cause a loss of equality and erode its unique social fabric.
The forum raised concerns regarding the activities of various organisations, including the RSS and its affiliates.
