On the other hand, Congress, a partner in the ruling dispensation, dismissed the allegations as politically motivated and a sign of desperation. Addressing a press conference at the state headquarters, BJP state spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo levelled allegations of a cover-up. He claimed the government constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) only under immense pressure. He raised questions regarding its composition, noting that the treasury officers and drawing and disbursing officers under whose watch the scam occurred remained in their posts. Invoking political history, Shahdeo warned that the Jharkhand government should learn from Lalu Prasad's fate in the fodder scam. Prasad was convicted for failing to take prompt action and attempting to suppress the matter. "The Jharkhand government should learn a lesson from the fate that befell Lalu Prasad in the fodder scam. Lalu Prasad was accused of failing to take immediate action... and attempting to sweep the entire matter under the rug," Shahdeo said....
