Trader shot dead in blackout during drill
PATNA, May 15 -- Taking advantage of a mock drill (blackout) in the state capital on Thursday evening, armed assailants gunned down a trader at busiest locality of Mussalahpur Haat under Sultanganj police station area.
The criminals fled the spot taking advantage of the darkness. The trader identified as Pintu Saw alias Barka was shot in his head from point blank range, causing him to fall on the spot due to profusely bleeding.
The sudden gunshot report caused a stampede like situation in the market and people ran halter and skelter.
Locals traders immediately rushed to the spot and took him to PMCH (Patna Medical College and Hospital) for treatment in a serious condition. However, doctors declared him brought dead.
It is being reported that at the time of the incident, power was cut off in the entire state capital. Entire police was engaged in implementing district administration order to shut the lights between 7pm and 7:15 pm.
The criminals took advantage of this 'blackout' to carry out the murder.
Police are scanning the CCTV footage of the area and interrogating eyewitnesses so that the culprits can be identified and arrested as soon as possible.
Traders believe that the criminals have taken full advantage of lack of police patrols and the absence of electricity.
SSP Kartikey K Sharma said preliminary investigation revealed that he might be killed in connection with some old enmity....
