Tiger that attacked farmer found dead in VTR
BETTIAH, July 31 -- A tiger believed to have critically injured an elderly farmer on Thursday morning was later found dead in the forest of Valmiki Tiger Reserve forest, officials said, prompting an investigation into the matter.
Confirming this, VTR's field director Gaurav Ojha said that the tiger was found dead about 500 meters away from Hathi Malkhnata Pul in Valmiknagar forest range of VTR where the animal had attacked a farmer earlier in the day.
"Prima facie, it appears that the tiger was very weak. It had multiple lacerating wounds found on the different parts of the body. The carcass has been sent for the postmortem," Ojha said.
He said that the matter came to light after tiger trackers launched a search operation following reports of the attack on the farmer. During the search, they found the tiger dead in the forest.
According to forest department officials,an elderly farmer, identified as Aklu Yadav, 60, son of Hathi, a resident of Bisaha village under Valmikinagar police station, was attacked and critically injured by the tiger after the farmer came to an agriculture field near Hathi Malkhnata Pul river near to graze his livestock earlier in the morning. The tiger allegedly emerged suddenly from dense vegetation and attacked him, said officials.
