PATNA, May 14 -- A joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) and Patna police led to the arrest of three criminals, including two notorious shooters belonging to a contract killer gang allegedly involved in the murder of real estate businessman Anjani Singh. Singh was gunned down near a PACS warehouse in Patna in June last year. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikey Kumar Sharma said the STF had received a tip-off that members of a contract killer gang had arrived in the state capital to execute the murder of a land trader. Acting swiftly, the STF, in coordination with local police, conducted raids in different police station areas and arrested three accused identified as Awadhesh Kumar alias Videshia Sao, Pappu Kumar alias Pappu Rai, and Deepak Kumar Pandit. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that their firearms had been hidden in the Bihta police station area. Police later took the three accused to the Anandpur area to recover the weapons. However, taking advantage of the darkness, Awadhesh Saw and Pappu Rai allegedly pulled out firearms from a forested area and opened fire at the police team. Police retaliated, during which both accused sustained bullet injuries in their legs. The third accused, Deepak Kumar, surrendered at the spot.
