PATNA, Nov. 4 -- Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar legislative assembly and RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Tuesday took a swipe at chief minister Samrat Choudhary over his contradictory remarks on crime in Bihar, questioning how such 'goof-ups' reflected on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's choice of chief ministers. In a post on X, Yadav shared a video clip of the CM's speech and wrote: "Bihar mein 'Crime' ho sakta hai, 'apradh' nahi!', referring to one clip of Choudhary in New Delhi during an event where he is heard making certain remarks on how his government had tackled crime situation in the state by nearly making Bihar crime free but construing the words 'crime and apradh' in two different contexts. In a tongue-in-cheek post on his social media handle, Yadav said such a self-contradictory statement by a chief minister may have left the IAS and IPS officers seated on the dais bewildered. He also questioned whether bureaucrats working with the chief minister felt honoured or humiliated. Yadav also took another potshot at CM Choudhary saying the utterances has come from a CM who was handpicked by PM Modi while wondering whether the PM had given some kind of a contract to CM to ruin Bihar, implying that such remarks from the executive head of the state were only bringing disrepute to Bihar. At an event of signing of an agreement between the Bihar government and the Union ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) in New Delhi, CM Choudhary in his address at one point of time referred about the crime situation in Bihar underlining that his government was working to tone up law and order with full zeal. In his address, CM Choudhary said there was no concept of crime left in Bihar. "Crime ho sakta hai, lekin apradh nahi ( Crime may be happening but not apradh( which in English actually translates to crime). Yahan koi apradh nahi hai ( there is no crime in Bihar) Apradh ka concept hi khatam ho chuka hai. Koi apradhi nahi hai," he said, linking the state's remaining major challenge to water management and flood control. The comments quickly went viral and drew strong political reaction. The exchange comes against the backdrop of continuing political sparring between the ruling NDA and the RJD over law and order. Yadav has been highlighting recent incidents, including a police firing in Madhubani in which an ASI allegedly opened fire after a confrontation, resulting in two deaths and two others being critically injured. The NDA government led by CM Choudhary has maintained that crime rates have been brought under control through stricter policing and use of technology, while the opposition continues to allege that the situation remains grim and that police excesses have increased....
