Tejashwi files papers from family stronghold
PATNA, Oct. 16 -- Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, on Wednesday filed his nomination papers from Raghopur assembly seat by exuding confidence that he would win handsomely recalling how he had won from the seat twice in the past in 2015 and 2020 polls.
"The people of Raghopur have trusted me twice and I believe this time as well they will trust me... You all know our party's aim to remove unemployment from the state and build Bihar again.... The people of the state are tired of the corruption here and want new beginnings...Our Mahagathbandhan is contesting on 243 seats and I am sure this time there will be a change of government in the state....", Yadav said, talking to reporters after filing his nomination in Hajipur.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad, former chief minister Rabri Devi, Patliputra's RJD MP Misa Bharti, former MLA Bhola Yadav and other senior RJD leaders had accompanied Yadav to file his nomination papers at the Hajipur sub-divisional office.
The traditional seat of Yadav family, having a sizable Yadav and Rajput voters apart from other castes, has been represented by former chief minister Lalu Prasad , former chief minister Rabri Devi and BJP's Satish Kumar. In 2020 polls, BJP's Satish Kumar lost to Tejashwi, who won the seat by a margin of 38,000 votes.
This time, the contest in the assembly seat located in Vaishali district is set to be a challenging poll battle for Tejashwi , 35, as there is going to be a triangular fight with the BJP likely to field its candidate while Jan Suraj has already announced Chanchal Singh as its nominee from the seat.
Recently, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor had claimed that people of Raghopur this time would vote for change and even had dropped hints of contesting the polls from the seat.
But Kishor has now announced he would not contest elections this time as he as per the decision taken by the party.
RJD leader Mritunjay Tiwari expressed confidence that the alliance would register a winning performance with Tejashwi at the helm. Tiwari said that the people of Bihar want a Tejashwi Yadav-led government.
"Everything is fine in the Mahagathbandhan; there are no ifs or buts, no conflicts. The Mahagathbandhan is united and is fighting the elections strongly. With immense public support and the blessings of the people, a Tejashwi government is going to be formed in Bihar," he said.
Meanwhile, deputy chief minister and BJP sitting MLA Vijay Kumar Sinha filed his nomination papers from Lakhisarai seat while BJP's other nominees like revenue minister Sanjay Sarougi filed his papers from Darbhanga seat.
Sitting BJP's MLA from Digha seat Sanjeev Chourasia filed his papers from the same seat.
Several top BJP leaders including Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attended the nomination process of few BJP leaders including deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha at Lakhisarai and later addressed a meeting, by asserting that people of the state have already seen progress under NDA's rule and there is need for the return of the NDA government so that the pace of development in the state continues with accelerated momentum.
Deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Keshav Prasad Maurya also attended a public meeting in Darbhanga where he highlighted how Bihar had witnessed development in NDA rule and exhorted people to vote for the ruling dispensation.
The Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with vote counting scheduled for November 14.
The 243-seat contest will determine the future political leadership of the state....
