PATNA, Oct. 10 -- Chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday directed state police top brass to list criminals and take strict action against habitual offenders and those who disturb public order in accordance with the law. He also called for action against the dissemination of misleading or offensive content on social media. Choudhary was speaking at a high-level review meeting at his official residence to assess the law and order situation and strengthen measures to control crime, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).
"District magistrates and SPs should provide necessary responses within two hours in sensitive social media-related cases, which will be monitored at the headquarters level," he said. Action against hate speech and illegal content must be taken in accordance with the relevant laws and prescribed procedures, he added. In a reference to protests by job aspirants in Patna over the past few months, Choudhary said competitive examinations must be "clean and free from malpractice," and directed officials to take strict action against those involved in irregularities. Describing law and order as the government's "top priority," he said, "Criminals should be catalogued in district-wise and police station-wise lists, and effective action should be taken against them....
