GAYAJI, July 27 -- A surprise inspection by Magadh University (MU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dilip Kumar Keshari and Registrar Prof Vinod Kumar Mangalam found Gaya College principal Prof Satish Singh Chandra absent without notice. The Sanskrit, Buddhist Studies and some other departments were also found locked during inspection on Saturday. Student attendance in Geography, Political Science, and some other departments was only one to two percent, MU Public Relation Officer (PRO) Param Prakash Rai said on Sunday. A few days ago, Dr Shivaji Pandey was transferred from the Sanskrit Department at Gaya College following a dispute between a female and a male teacher. Currently, only Dr Sangeeta Arya is posted in the Sanskrit Department. Additionally, the situation observed in various departments has persisted for several days. The VC has sought immediate explanations from the principals and teachers found absent before taking action against gross negligence and dereliction of duty. Any obstacles hindering the university's academic progress will be removed. The university administration will not tolerate any laxity in academic and administrative discipline, the VC said. Established in 1944 at Rampur in Gaya and having a 57-acre independent campus, Gaya College is the premier college for graduation and postgraduation in science and arts in the region.
