Supporters vandalise property at party office
PATNA, March 6 -- Supporters of Nitish Kumar created a ruckus inside Janata Dal (United) office here on Thursday, vandalising property in protest against CM Nitish Kumar's decision to move to Rajya Sabha. The angry workers accused that some senior leaders of the party had conspired to remove Nitish from Bihar's politics.
Hundreds of workers gathered outside the CM's residence (1 Anne Marg) since morning. The atmosphere there became highly emotional and tense. Many workers sat on the road and cried, while some even threatened self-immolation. Workers were chanting slogans like, 'We will give our lives but will not let Nitish Kumar go'.
A heavy police force was deployed around the JD (U) office and CM House. As BJP minister Surendra Mehta, JD(U) MLC Sanjay Gandhi and MLA Prem Mukhiya were heading toward the CM's residence, angry workers chased them away while shouting slogans. Slogans were also raised against senior party leader Lalan Singh, whom the workers considered the mastermind behind the leadership change.
JD(U) leader Ranjan Patel said, "I have nothing to do but cry. We tolerated lathi-charge and kicking and punching to make Nitish Kumar chief minister. In 2025, we sought votes for Nitish Kumar door-to-door, if he is not the chief minister, where will the people of Bihar go?
"We had only demanded that Nishant be sent to Rajya Sabha. If some one wants to change the chief minister, if they feel they have the power to change the leadership, they should fight elections and get a majority, we will not say anything. We will stay here and will not allow him (Nitish Kumar) to file nomination in any circumstances. Nishant Kumar should be nominated and we will not let Nitish Kumar go," he said.
Another JD(U) leader said the mandate of 2025 had been received in the name of Nitish Kumar, and he should not leave Bihar and go to Delhi. "Lalan Singh and Sanjay Jha are sending Nitish Kumar to the Rajya Sabha to finish off the JD(U). Not only this, JD(U) MLC Sanjay Gandhi is also not in favour of Nitish Kumar going to Rajya Sabha," he said....
