BETTIAH, Oct. 7 -- The Sangrampur police has registered a case against five people and opened an investigation into the death of a woman, who was believed to have died by suicide a year ago, was shown being harassed and tied up by her in-laws a went viral on social media, police said on Tuesday. East Champaran superintendent of police (SP) Swarn Prabhat, in a video message posted on a WhatsApp group of police and media representatives on Tuesday, said a case had been registered against five people in connection with the incident following the receipt of a video and complaint from the deceased's brother. "It is being confirmed that the pictures and videos in circulation are related to about one year old incident surrounding the death of a woman who was suspected to have died by suicide. The police took cognisance of the video and initiated an investigation into the circumstances, registering a case in this connection and constituting an SIT for the arrest of the accused," said the superintendent of police. The SP said the postmortem on the body was not performed then following the written request receipt from the deceased's brother who claimed that her sister had died by suicide denying anybody's involvement behind. He said the deceased body was recovered from hanging from the ceiling of her in-law's place at Parsausa under Sangrampur police station on October 2, 2025 and a station diary was registered describing the same to be a suicide case based on the statement of deceased's brother. "Of lately, the deceased's brother grew suspicious after he stumbled upon his sister's video in which is being shown harassed and her legs being tied by her in-laws. Following this investigation has been opened into the murder of the woman," said the superintendent of the police, adding video clip is being sent for forensic investigation. Police said the video showed the woman wearing the same clothes which she had worn on the day she was found dead. Video footage showed the woman being caught and her legs being tied by two woman and a man. Meanwhile, police have lodged a case 356/26 in which three people have been made named accused, which also includes deceased's brother-in-law , daughter-in-law and mother-in-law and along with two others....
