Stray dogs unearth body of missing teen girl buried in sand
RANCHI, June 25 -- A murder came to light after stray dogs unearthed the body of a 17-year-old girl buried in the sand along the banks of Kanchi River under Dassam Fall police station area, police said.
A police official close to the matter told Hindustan Times that the girl had been missing from her house since last week.
Bundu Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Om Prakash confirmed the incident, stating that villagers informed the police about the body on Tuesday morning. "The discovery was made on Tuesday morning after villagers from Sarjamdih in Churgi Panchayat. Villagers noticed the body after they saw stray dogs digging sand at the place from where a foul smell was coming. They informed the police. The deceased's mother arrived at the site and identified the body," the SDPO said.
Asked about the investigation, the SDPO said, "Preliminary findings strongly suggest that it is a case of murder. Several injury marks were found on the body, which was partially decomposed. The body has been sent to RIMS for post-mortem examination."
A police official familiar with the case said the teenager had been living with her maternal uncle in Badigada village under Arki police station area for several years. "She had been missing for about a week. Although her family had been searching for her, they had no idea about the tragic turn of events. Surprisingly, no missing person complaint had been lodged with the police," the official said.
"It is suspected that the accused killed the girl and buried her deep in the river sand in an attempt to conceal her identity and destroy evidence. We are investigating all possible angles to establish the motive behind the crime and identify those responsible," the official added....
