MADHUBANI/SAMASTIPUR, Aug. 10 -- Six people, including three women, were killed and another was critically injured in three separate road accidents in Madhubani and Samastipur of north Bihar, police said on Sunday. In Madhubani, three women were killed after an uncontrolled SUV ran over a group of morning walkers near Jagdamba petrol pump on Benipatti state highway on Sunday. The driver fled with the vehicle. Arer SHO said Rita Devi (42), Kiran Devi (40) and Phool Dai Devi (70), all residents of Navtoli (Dhakjari) village, died on the spot. The women were part of a group of six who regularly went for morning walks. They were returning home when the incident took place. Locals gathered in large numbers and blocked Benipatti-Rahika State Highway (SH-52) in protest. Vehicles were stranded in queues stretching nearly a kilometre on both sides of the petrol pump. On information, a heavy police force reached the spot to control the situation and restore traffic. Police and local representatives engaged in talks with the victims' families and residents. The bodies were then sent for post-mortem examination. Police are now investigating the circumstances of the accident and the vehicle involved in it. In another incident, the driver of a mixer vehicle involved in road construction work was killed after collapse of a diversion on Pokhrauni-Saurath main road under Rahika police station early Sunday, police said. Naresh Giri, a resident of Shivgiri under Aurai police station in Muzaffarpur, died after being trapped in a water-filled pit following the mishap. The incident took place around 2 am when the vehicle went out of control after the diversion on the under-construction stretch gave way and plunged into the pit. As the accident took place during the night, neither residents nor personnel of the road construction company could immediately notice it. The vehicle and the driver's body were spotted by locals later in the morning, following which the body was fished out. Rahika SHO Anand Kumar said that residents had blocked the Rahika-Jaynagar main road with the body, demanding compensation for the victim's family. Police reached the spot and held talks with the protesters. The officers assured them that necessary recommendations would be made for compensation payment to the kin, following which the blockade was lifted. The body was sent to Madhubani Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. In Samastipur, two people were killed and another was critically injured after a speeding truck collided with a motorcycle near Sindhiya Chowk under Bibhutipur police station late Saturday. The injured youth is undergoing treatment at a private hospital and doctors described his condition as critical, police said on Sunday. According to police, the victims have been identified as Gautam Kumar (44), a known homeopathic doctor in Ekdara village who had been operating a clinic near Panchvati Chowk for around 20 years, and Kunal Kumar (22) a lab technician from Bharpur village who worked at a laboratory in the Dalsinghsarai block office road. Kunal's brother Pradeep Kumar said Kunal had closed the laboratory and was returning home with Gautam and another person when the accident happened. Bibhutipur SHO Sunil Kumar said the truck was seized and bodies were sent to Samastipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Police were registering an FIR and investigating the incident....
