BHAGALPUR, Feb. 9 -- Both the sub inspector (SI) who had stabbed a constable and fled, and the victim constable were suspended following an SIT report that said both were drunk at the time of the incident, police said Sunday. The SIT was formed by Naugachia SP under SDPO Om Prakash after the SI allegedly stabbed the constable, both posted at Naugachia police line. The incident took place at Naugachia market on Friday morning. The SDPO said both SI Jai Ram Manjhi and constable Vishal Kumar Singh tested positive after breath analyser tests. Both were suspended and departmental proceedings would be initiated against them. Police have also registered an FIR and the SI has been taken into judicial custody. The constable is undergoing treatment at JLN Medical College and Hospital, Bhagalpur. Highly placed sources within police said both the SI and the constable were drunk and after a lighthearted exchange of words during shopping in the market, the SI took out a knife and stabbed 30-year-old Vishal. Soon after the incident the SI fled the scene. The injured constable later told media persons that he was stabbed by the SI without any rhyme or reason. The injured constable was rushed to Naugachhia sub divisional hospital but the doctors declaring his condition quite serious referred him to JLN Medical College and Hospital, where his condition is out of danger. Locals said police officials had been regular visitors to Nauniya Patti market of Naugachhia where the incident took place. "Here illegal liquor is sold and even police have the knowledge and the accused SI and constable are confirmed drunkards," they said....
