RANCHI, July 3 -- The Jharkhand government granted administrative approval for a massive Rs.12,67,55,812 budget to overhaul the security and surveillance apparatus at Dumka Central Jail, people aware of the development said on Thursday. The home, jail, and disaster management department cleared the funds for the financial year 2026-27 under a dedicated state scheme. The newly sanctioned blueprint covers advanced high-tech electronic equipment alongside dedicated human resources to manage the network continuously. At least 398 additional CCTV cameras, including all necessary auxiliary support tools and system infrastructure will be procured and mounted. To guarantee continuous, loop-free oversight, the contract budgets for one technical operator and one technical supervisor for an initial duration of one year. The system features a mandatory two-year hardware warranty, followed by a pre-negotiated three-year Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract (CAMC) to sustain the network long-term. A home department official said this aggressive technological push comes at a critical time for Jharkhand's prison and judicial infrastructure. The approval given on June 24 was uploaded on the department's website on Wednesday. "This project directly aligns with the Jharkhand HC's ongoing mandates pushing the state to maximise digital accountability, transparency, and continuous footage retention across all sensitive state law enforcement units," he said.
