Rlys to run 2 trains to boost Buddhist circuit connectivity
PATNA, Aug. 20 -- The Indian Railways has decided to introduce two trains, including a MEMU fast passenger service, to connect the Buddhist Circuit Rail Corridor (Vaishali and Gaya) with new rail bridges and the suburban transport network of South and North Bihar.
On Tuesday, the East Central Railway (ECR) confirmed that the two trains-Delhi-Gaya Amrit Bharat Express and Gaya-Vaishali MEMU-are likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing during his visit to Gaya on August 22.
The MEMU service will boost connectivity to key Buddhist sites such as Gaya, Gurupad (near Gurpa station), Koderma, Rajgir, Tilaiya, Nalanda, Biharsharif, Patna, Sonepur and Vaishali. Gurupad Giri, an important site associated with Lord Buddha, will now be directly linked with Vaishali and Rajgir by rail.
Earlier in May, Bihar chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena had written to the Railway Board suggesting a circular train service on the Patna-Gaya-Tilaiya-Rajgir-Fatuha route (following the approval of Bakhtiyarpur-Tilaiya doubling).
The proposal aimed at easing travel to and from Bodh Gaya and Rajgir while benefiting residents of Patna, Jehanabad, Gaya, Nawada and Nalanda districts.
As per the new schedule, the MEMU train will depart Vaishali at 5:15 am and reach Koderma at 3:15 pm.
On the return journey, it will leave Koderma at 4:45 pm and reach Vaishali at 2:45 am.
Local residents of Gaya and Vaishali, along with Buddhist followers, have expressed excitement, hoping the service will not only boost tourism but also generate employment and improve regional transport and allied facilities significantly.
ECR has also announced the launch of the Amrit Bharat Express between Gaya and Delhi.
The train will run bi-weekly, operating every Sunday and Thursday from Gaya, and every Monday and Friday from Delhi. En route, it will halt at Anugrah Narayan Road, Sasaram, Bhabhua, Subedarganj, Govindpuri, Tundla and Ghaziabad, said CPRO Saraswati Chandra while sharing the official timetable....
