Rewards announced in Police Mitra fraud case
BETTIAH, Feb. 7 -- After two back-to-back arrests, East Champaran police on Thursday evening announced cash rewards for information on three individuals in connection with the fake Police Mitra recruitment scam. The case was registered earlier this week at Kotwa police station.
In an official statement, issued on February 5 evening, police said three individuals, Ashok Samrat, Rakesh Kumar alias Jitendra and Dharmendra Kunwar, were masterminds behind the racket cheating youth in the name of recruitment as police mitras. Ashok, Rakesh and Dharmendra carry cash rewards to the tune of Rs.15,000, Rs.10,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively, as per the statement.
Ashok Samrat, a resident of Vaishali district; Rakesh Kumar alias Jitendra, a resident of Patna district; and Dharmendra Kunwar of Samastipur are accused of ensnaring unsuspecting youth in the trap by promising them recruitment and subsequently forcing them to part with sums of money on various pretexts.
"Though the exact contour of the racket is yet to be figured out, 10 to 15 people look to be victims of this racket. These victims are from Harsidih, Chhatauni, Kotwa and Araraj of East Champaran alone. Further investigation into the matter is underway," said Hemant Singh, probationary IPS officer leading the special investigation team (SIT).
In yet another development, the SIT arrested one of the active members of the racket, identified as Neeraj Kumar Verma alias Amit Kumar of Muzaffarpur, in connection with a case.
