Record vigilance action against corrupt officials in 2025: DG
PATNA, Dec. 27 -- The Bihar special vigilance investigation recorded its highest ever number of actions against corrupt officials in 2025 with a significant number caught red-handed taking bribes or charged with disproportionate assets.
The vigilance investigation bureau's director general, Jitendra Singh Gangwar said that among these, 15 cases are related to disproportionate assets, while 12 cases are related to being caught red-handed taking bribes (trap cases).
This figure is the highest so far compared to previous years. Details of actions taken through vigilance from 2021 to 2025 have been released. In 2025, Vigilance has taken the most action against corrupt officials, he added.
He said that in 2025, officials were caught for possessing disproportionate assets and for taking bribes red-handed.
"In fact, the special vigilance unit was established with the objective of strengthening the state's vigilance department and ensuring effective action in matters related to corruption prevention. In 2025, total 27 FIRs were registered by the vigilance in which among these, 15 cases are related to disproportionate assets, while 12 cases are related to being caught red-handed taking bribes (trap cases), said DG Gangwar.
The DG said, "Strict action will continue in the future under the policy of zero tolerance against corruption. The bureau has clarified that the Special Vigilance Unit is being further strengthened to ensure transparency and accountability in the government machinery," he added.
Meanwhile, in the disproportionate assets case, the Vigilance took first action on January 22, 2025 against district education officer Rajnikant Praveen in Bettaih and recovered worth Rs.3. 55 crore in cash and documents of land worth approximately Rs.2.75 crore.
On December 15, 2025, Vigilance had taken action against director quality control (North) of Bihar government's building construction department. A case was registered against him for disproportionate assets worth Rs.2. 82 lakh in cash and land documents worth a total of worth Rs.3. 41 crore were recovered, which are in the name of the accused and his wife....
