GAYA JI, Sept. 23 -- Religious season Pitri Paksha Mahasangam 2025 in Gaya Ji set a record for the highest tourist footfall in Bihar, with close to 3.2 million pilgrims arriving in fifteen days. A record 31,77,663 devotees, 17 of them foreigners, reached Gaya Ji and performed Pind Daan and Tarpan for the salvation of the souls of their ancestors. Total pilgrims on the last day was 0.3 million. A foot counting machine was installed at Vishnupad Temple to count the pilgrims, tourism minister Raju Kumar Singh said. This is in comparison to 2.2 million in 2024, 1.5 million in 2023 and 1.3 million in 2022. Singh said Bodh Gaya, Rajgir and Nalanda were the other tourist sites in the state attracting biggest tourist inflow and the government was committed to developing tourism.
