Raj doctor shifts OPD to tent in protest against encroachments
Barmer, Aug. 22 -- A government medical officer in Batadu village of Barmer district has shifted his outpatient services to a tent as part of a protest against the administration's inaction against persistent encroachments. The move, he says, is aimed at drawing attention to a problem that has stalled key facilities and inconvenienced patients.
Dr Jogendra Choudhary, the medical officer in charge, said he had submitted at least ten complaints to the sub-divisional magistrate and tehsildar, and even met the district collector several times, but no action followed.
"Due to lack of staff quarters, employees are unwilling to stay here, night services are suffering, and patients are facing problems daily. To draw attention, I am now running the OPD in a tent," he said.
The protest is underway at the community health centre (CHC) in Batadu, where alleged illegal occupation has blocked construction of the boundary wall and staff quarters, with sanctioned funds eventually lapsing and patients also denied access to a planned free medicine shop under government schemes.
It is alleged that 10-12 shops have been built illegally on the hospital land, leaving the premises exposed to stray cattle and dogs. Plantation drives have also failed, contributing to the hospital's poor ranking under the national Lakshya scheme, where missing infrastructure has led to point deductions.
