Rahul threatens new 'vote theft' explosion
PATNA, Sept. 2 -- Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Monday in Patna invoked a "hydrogen bomb" metaphor to underscore the scale of alleged electoral fraud, following his earlier "atom bomb" revelations about voter list manipulations.
"BJP must listen to me. Have you heard of an atom bomb? I have shown it in the press conference. Now, there is something bigger - the hydrogen bomb. You all must be ready for it. The truth about the vote chori will be revealed to the people of the country. After that hydrogen bomb, PM Modi will not be able to show his face to the country," Gandhi declared, intensifying his attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The declaration came at Dak Bungalow Chauraha, where Gandhi addressed leaders and workers of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc. Police halted the symbolic march from Gandhi Maidan towards Ambedkar Park near Patna High Court. This marked the grand finale of the 16-day Voter Adhikar Yatra, which covered 1,300 km across 25 districts and 110 assembly constituencies. Participants included AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and key figures from INDIA bloc parties like Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), NCP (Sharad Pawar), TMC and Shiv Sena (Udhav Thackeray).
Elaborating on the government's alleged broader agenda beyond "vote theft", Gandhi said the yatra aimed to expose how it extends to stripping citizens of constitutional rights. "It (vote theft) is not confined to depriving them of their voting rights, as guaranteed by the Constitution. The government will steal your rights, your jobs, education, your future and the essentials of democracy. It will take away your (people's) land, ration card and everything and give it to Adani & Ambani," he charged, tying electoral fraud to corporate favouritism.
In a media interaction, Gandhi claimed the slogan "vote chor, gaddi chhor" (vote thief, leave the throne) had spread nationwide and even internationally. "People in China and the US are also shouting the slogan of 'vote chor, gaddi chhor,'" he added.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav took aim at Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, accusing him of moral corruption after repeated alliance switches. "The double-engine government in Bihar has gone awry. One engine is indulging in fanning corruption, while another is encouraging corruption. Now CM Nitish has become Bhishma Pitamah of naitik brashtachar (moral corruption). He is not acting against a corrupt engineer possessing crores of rupees, because he works with the department headed by a minister to whom the CM visits his house morning and evening," Tejashwi alleged. Branding Nitish a "duplicate CM," he said, "Nitish Kumar copies every announcement I make. I talk about jobs, he copies. I talk about welfare, he copies. But the people of Bihar know who the original is."
Launched to protest alleged voter list manipulations ahead of Bihar's assembly elections, the yatra targeted the SIR process, which the opposition claims deleted over 6.5 million legitimate voters - mainly from Dalits, Adivasis, minorities, and migrant workers - while retaining ghost entries.
Modeled after Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, it featured foot marches, motorcycle rides, and jeep rallies, drawing large crowds and amplifying the "vote chor, gaddi chhor" message.
After paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Maidan, Gandhi accused the BJP, RSS and ECI of a nationwide conspiracy, citing examples like 1 crore new voters added in Maharashtra post-Lok Sabha polls and over 100,250 duplicates in Karnataka's Mahadevapura. He criticised the ECI's lack of transparent data and likened the BJP's actions to "murdering" the Constitution, akin to Mahatma Gandhi's assassination.
Other INDIA bloc leaders reinforced the message. Kharge warned, "He (Modi) is a very dangerous man. Unless you remove him from power, your votes, rights, freedom, and the Constitution will not remain safe." Soren affirmed, "The entire INDIA alliance stands firmly under Rahul Gandhi's leadership. We will not tolerate this. The whole country has united against repeated attempts to seize power through 'vote chori'."
CPI-ML's Dipankar Bhattacharya, Vikassheel Insaan Party's Mukesh Sahani, and Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal echoed the call. Venugopal posted on X: "The people of Bihar have given unprecedented support to the Voter Adhikar Yatra. This has been a milestone in Bihar's rich history of people's movements."
Former Union minister Subodh Kant Sahay and Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) chief Keshav Mahto Kamlesh along with other senior leaders of Bihar Congress including BPCC chief Rajesh Ram, Rajya Sabha member Akhilesh Prasad Singh, CLP leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan and senior leader Kishore Jha also marked in procession. Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena (UT) and Irfan Pathan (TMC) were also present at the dais. The yatra's culmination galvanized the INDIA bloc against electoral malpractices, setting the stage for a heated Bihar election battle centered on restoring "one person, one vote."...
