PATNA, Aug. 30 -- Activists of Bhim Army and Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram) clashed with police near JP roundabout during a protest march towards the Raj Bhawan against alleged irregularities in Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examinations here on Saturday. However, none received serious injuries. The demonstrators assembled at Gandhi Maidan and began a march pressing for a judicial inquiry into the 70th BPSC examination, the dismissal of the BPSC chairman, an immediate halt to training of selected candidates and 85% reservation for state domicile candidates in Bihar government recruitments. They also called for the resignation of the education minister Mithilesh Tiwari, alleging systemic bias. Protesters attempted to breach barricades near JP roundabout, while announcing plans to proceed to Raj Bhavan. SP City (Central) Mamta Kalyani said the activists "gathered near Gandhi Maidan and tried to disrupt the movement of traffic. Despite our repeated requests, they refused to vacate the roads. Later, police dispersed the agitators and restored normal traffic movement." One of the protesters alleged that rampant corruption had taken place during the BPSC examination and urged the state government to immediately dismiss the BPSC chairman, constitute an inquiry committee and halt the training of the selected candidates. Another protester alleged that students were subjected to discriminatory treatment akin to untouchability, with a bias favouring the wealthy over the poor. He further alleged that the results appeared to have been rigged and accused the BJP government of deliberately keeping the poor impoverished.
