Priyanka visit coinciding with Teej fest aims to focus on Bihar women
PATNA, Aug. 26 -- As Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi joins Rahul Gandhi's 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' in Supaul to criss-cross Mithilanchal on August 26-27, there is a method in it, say Congress leaders.
The arrival of Priyanka Gandhi coincides with the revered Teej and Chaurchan festivals, which is celebrated with great devotion by women for the longevity of their husbands and happy conjugal life. In Mithilanchal, Chaurchal festival also falls on August 26, when married women offer arghya to Moon and Lord Ganesh for family bliss. sPriyanka Gandhi, during her visit, will address the people and party leaders said that the women would be as usual her focus. She will also offer prayers at the Janaki Mandir in Sitamarhi and engage with women to have a glimpse of the rich tradition of Mithila festival.
The Congress focus on Mithilanchal can be understood by the fact that there was a time when several party stalwarts like Lalit Narayan Mishra, Jagannath Mishra, Radhanandan Jha and Nagendra Jha held sway there, but in the last three and half decades it slipped to make room for the dominance of the NDA, which maintained it election after election since 2014.
Former Congress president and Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Prsasad Singh said that the debacle in the Mithilanchal region had prevented the Grand Alliance from forming government last time in 2020 despite good show in Shahabad and Magadh, and therefore the Congress was focussing on correction.
"She will visit Maa Sita temple in Sitamarhi and pass through the heart of Mithila. Maa Janaki is the daughter of Mithila. It is good that she is coming on a day when Mithilanchal women will be celebrating their important festival. Mithila and Kosi belts are under Congress focus and women of the region will play a key role in it. Priyanka Gandhi's connection with them will help the party revive its old ties with the region," he added.
What is significant about Priyanka's visit is that women have been in the focus of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to create a separate caste-neutral constituency through a slew of initiatives and financial incentives. "Priyanka Gandhi is a tall leader and is a woman. She has a knack of establishing instant connect with the local women, as she invariably gets involved with the local tradition. Her presence itself will make a big difference and take forward what Rahul Gandhi has achieved so far to put the Congress on the front seat in Bihar after a long time," said Congress leader and former AICC member Kishor Kumar Jha, who is camping in Mithilanchal. Jha said that the way the campaign has picked up momentum due to overwhelming support of the masses is what has prompted all the senior leaders to join it, as they see in it the potential to be a pan-India movement, with its genesis in Bihar. "The impact is palpable and we are also feeling energised. There are big banners of Rahul Gandhi's Yatra installed on the Phulparas-Jhanjharpur-Sakri-Darbhanga stretch and workers are eager to greet him," he added....
