PATNA, Oct. 11 -- The nomination process for the first phase of Bihar assembly polls in 121 assembly constituencies to be held on November 6 kicked off from Friday, with the Election Commission of India (ECI) clarifying that 12 alternative documents apart from EPIC (electors photo identity card) have been allowed for identification of voters namely, Aadhaar Card, MGNREGA card, passbooks with photograph issued by bank/ post offices, driving license, Indian passport, pension document, etc. On the first day, there were few nominations filed as per reports. It could well be because major coalitions like NDA and INDIA bloc are yet to finalise their seat-sharing arrangements. In its press note, the ECI also clarified that to encourage participation of 'purdanasheen' ( in burqa or purdah) women, special arrangements shall be made at the polling stations as per extant instructions for their dignified identification in the presence of lady polling officers/ attendants while ensuring their privacy. In order to ensure that the use of alcohol and other enticements are not used to influence polls, the authorities have also spruced up security in entry and exit points from the state so that illegal liquor, cash or arms don't enter the state. As an official information, a total of Rs.20.06 lakh and liquor worth Rs.6.61 crore and drugs/ narcotics worth Rs.2.06 crore have been seized in the last few days. Bihar will have two phase elections on November 6 and November 11 while the counting will be held on November 14....
